Lauren: Attempt to make some fudge. The last time we tried—

Isabella: If you're interested in our recipe—

Lauren: It's not really our recipe. It's the combination of several recipes we put together.

Vicki: You can see our fudge recipe on the next page. The fudge is really wicked. And maybe after you're finished, you could sell it in the school cafeteria—for a profit.

Lauren: We tried that already and it landed me in the emergency room.

Isabella: Don't listen to her complaining. But do read The Night The Penningtons Vanished.

Vicki: You'll listen to plenty of Lauren's complaining in the book.

Isabella: And just to get you started you can read Chapter One by scrolling to the right.

1 12-oz. Package of semisweet chocolate
¾ cup sweetened condensed milk
Pinch of salt
1 tsp. Vanilla

Optional:
½ cup of nuts
1 pt. of marshmallow
¾ cup of peanut butter
½ cup of candied cherries

Put chocolate pieces in top of a double boiler. Melt over boiling water, stirring several times. Remove from heat and add the sweetened condensed milk, the salt, the vanilla and one of the optional ingredients. Stir until smooth. Put into an 8x8 inch waxed paper-lined pan. Place in the refrigerator until firm, about two hours. Cut into pieces and if there is any left over (which is unlikely), put in an airtight container.
